My Book
The Vibrating Pond
This is the second edition of THE VIBRATING POND, a collection of fiction short stories written over several years, between 1975 and 2017. This reprint edition is larger, with new materials. The phrase ‘Vibrating Pond’ derives from my book of poetry titled ‘The Hammer Bird,’ published in 1985.
Reader's Review
“If you enjoy Science Fiction and Poetry, this book is for you! Each poem is a story and journey. As a published poet and author, you don’t have to like poetry, like I do, to enjoy this book. The tales are within the structure of poetry and very well imagined. You’ll get a unique glimpse of a stunning future for mankind and view of life in general as we leave Earth and venture into the stars.
After the poems the book starts off at a heck of a pace and just keeps it going, at times it’s difficult to keep up with the multiple storylines going on at once.
I think this is an extremely well written medieval fantasy with just a slight bit of magic and no foul language!”

“The story-lines are taken from everyday life. Hence, people loved it from the heart, and they could relate themselves to the stories. According to the happy readers, the writing style is so interesting that it hooks the audience all the time. Due to their short volumes, readers find it easy to read anytime they want. Thus, they can enjoy the essence of the stories whenever they like. However, the themes of the story-lines are exception.”

“Nigel Howse’s “The Vibrating Pond” is a collection short stories, albeit in a poetic style and poems which he completed over four decades.
The themes of the poems are ranging from war, future, and nature etc. My favorite short story is My First Day at school, which flew me back to my first day in school.
It is a slow read and would be a perfect leisurely read. The poems are rich and imaginative language, and Nigel has used a number of literary devices/techniques that are much appealing to the reader. The poems and short stories have a magical soothing effect, maybe to his language or writing style, that gives you a warm and cozy feeling after every read. So, I love to re-read them, especially in my bedtime, that relaxes me and sets the mood. Highly recommended!”
